In this hands-on course you will learn everything you need to work efficiently with Flowable as a developer. The course consists of five sessions, each lasting half a day.

The first two sessions introduce the main concepts and the BPMN modeling notation. In the following three sessions you will learn how to use the Flowable Service Registry to build REST integrations and Scripting Utilities.

In the following three sessions you will learn how to use the Flowable Java backend to implement your own custom logic and integrate with external systems.

  • Experience with enterprise development using Java.
  • Basic knowledge about Spring/Spring Boot or a similar framework.

  • Flowable app structure: workspaces, apps and models
  • From model to instance: models, definitions and instances
  • Process modeling with BPMN: user tasks, gateways and sequence flows
  • Flowable Forms basics

Session 2

  • Important tasks: Initialize Variables, Email and Service Tasks
  • Flowable Forms in depth: start and work forms, reuse with subforms, outcomes
  • Flowable variables: types, JSON variables and usage in forms and tasks
  • Form validations and the validation panel
  • Useful form and backend expressions
  • Debugging with Flowable Inspect

Session 3

  • Process and case hierarchies, interface parameters
  • The Service Registry and Service Models
  • REST Service Models: settings, operations, request and response handlers, OpenAPI import
  • Debugging the Service Registry
  • Script Service Models

Session 4

  • Local setup: running Flowable Design and Work locally
  • Spring crash course: properties, beans, REST endpoints and Spring Boot tests
  • Service Tasks and expressions: calling beans
  • Deep-dive into variables: what to store in variables and what not
  • Expression Service Models

Session 5

  • Flowable REST API
  • Flowable Java API and services
  • Testing with Flowable: test types, utilities and process tests
  • Async behavior: wait states, runtime errors and job types
